Monrovia, Liberia – The National Housing Authority (NHA) convened a high-level validation meeting today with all sectional managers to review and finalize its 5-Year Strategic Plan, aimed at accelerating access to affordable and sustainable housing across Liberia.
The meeting brought together line managers and the three presidential appointees of the NHA-they jointly examined the draft plan’s goals, interventions, targets, and implementation framework to ensure alignment with national development priorities and the housing needs of Liberians.
The 5-Year Strategic Plan outlines NHA’s roadmap to expand housing supply, strengthen off-taker models, improve financing mechanisms, and enhance institutional capacity.
Key focus areas include:
1. Strengthen Liberia’s Housing Sector Policy and Regulatory Environment: Develop policies, procedures and processes to improve Liberia’s housing sector so that it delivers adequate housing on a sustained basis.
2. Access to Land: Secure land
3. Affordable Housing Construction: Provide affordable housing units, and strengthen access to housing information.
4. Sites & Services : Provide Serviced plots
5. Slum Upgrade: Upgrade homes
6. Improving access to Housing Finance: mortgage and housing microfinance
7. Resource Mobilization: Increase Project Funding
8. Improve Housing Technology: the production of wall, floor and roofing tiles using local alternative building materials
9. Capacity Building: Train employees
“We have this instrument to guide the implementation of our mandate over a 5-year period ,” said Madame Florence Geegbae, Managing Director of the National Housing Authority. “This plan will guide how we deliver housing that is affordable, dignified, and within reach for Liberian families over the next five years.”
The MD further added, “We recognise the challenges ahead of us with this very ambitious strategic plan, but we are confident that by the end of the 5 years, all of the programs enshrined within this strategic plan will be effected by this institution.”
Managers provided feedback on financing models, land acquisition frameworks, housing policies and programs, project prioritization, location decisions, and monitoring frameworks. The validated plan will be submitted for final approval and public release in the coming weeks.
To note, the National Housing Authority Liberia is the government agency mandated to facilitate the provision of affordable housing and human settlements for Liberians. Through partnerships, policy coordination, and project execution, NHA works to reduce Liberia’s housing deficit and improve living standards nationwide.
